Youth Service Organization (YSO)
Thank you,
Saint Matthews,
for your support.
Our Youth collected
$623
for Manna Meal
This year, YSO took their participation in the Souper Bowl of Caring to new heights. We thank everyone for their support on February 6 when the cash collected in the soup pans doubled the amount collected last year. What a tremendous gift at a time that Manna Meal is really in need. Not surprisingly, the Steelers' Big Soup pan contained the majority of the donations with only a few bucks being put into the rather smaller Packers' Soup pan!
With Manna Meal’s kitchen closed for renovation, Sarah Korwan kindly arranged for YSO not only t0 help serve during a lunch as we have on previous years, but also to cook and deliver a meal. At a previous youth meeting, they slaved over the hot stove to make 12 gallons of meat sauce from scratch, as well as 20 large loaves of garlic bread! Some of this was used for the Parish Spaghetti Dinner, and the rest was used to make a delicious pasta bake, which the youth helped to freshly prepare on Sunday, February 27.
Six members of YSO and several adults delivered five huge pans of pasta bake, presented our check and then helped to set up and serve the lunch at Manna Meal. It was a humbling experience for the youth to be so involved in such a hands-on way, and to actually meet and interact with the people we were helping. We were also able to donate several bags of canned food collected during the Souper Bowl drive.
WSAZ happened to choose the same day to report on the kitchen renovation at Manna Meal. The reporter interviewed Perry McGhee and Grace Moore on camera and all the youth present were filmed serving. The news story aired later that night. Click here to be linked to the story and video footage!
