UPCOMING MEETINGS AND EVENTS

We have a short but busy month ahead of us! :)

On February 6, we'll collect donations of canned goods and cash donations in soup pans before and after the 10:30 service for our annual Souper Bowl of Caring. The Souper Bowl of Caring is a national effort by churches and organizations to help fight hunger. Each participating group chooses its own local group to support that provides meals or food to the needy. Our YSO supports Manna Meal, located at St. John's Episcopal Church, Charleston. YSO members will arrange to serve at Manna Meal in the following weeks when we will also present the collected donations. Manna Meal is currently working without a kitchen, so we are also planning for YSO to cook a meal to deliver in the coming weeks, tentatively scheduled for February 27.

On February 13, the Youth Group will host a spaghetti dinner fund-raiser in Mathes Hall after the 10:30 service to raise money for our ski trip March 12-13. Please plan to arrive by 10 a.m. at the latest to help us set up and cook.

Then, February 18-19 is a ski trip to Winterplace, hosted by the Diocese of West Virginia and open to youth throughout the state. We'll travel by bus to Saint Stephen's Church in Beckley, where we'll have pizza, games and Compline on Friday night. Then, after breakfast Saturday, we'll head down to the slopes at Winterplace. Reservations forms are HERE, more information about the trip is HERE and information about Winterplace is HERE. But be sure to reserve your place AS SOON AS POSSIBLE by calling Lucy at (304) 932-7863 or by emailing her. Plan to join other youth from across the Diocese for this fun adventure!

Youth Service Event: March of Dimes Phone-a-thon

September 27, 2009

The March of Dimes Phon-a-thon was a tremendous success and those who attended had a lot of fun participating. The Youth Group met in Mathes Hall to watch a couple of videos to learn about the essential work undertaken by March of Dimes before starting to phone Saint Matthews Congregation.

NTelos had generously donated several cell phones for the event, and for nearly four hours the group constantly phoned the parish asking for donations. They only took a brief break for pizza and refreshments as competition was hot for the prize of Top Pledge Collector (finally won by Virginia McGhee with Jessica Sayre close behind to win the runner-up prize)! In total, the group managed to attain pledges for an incredible

.... $2,510

The Youth Group would like to thank all who pledged for their extremely generous support.
