Saint Matthews AcolytesWhat is an acolyte? The word "acolyte" comes from the Greek word for "Server." Acolytes assist the rector by performing duties in church during the 10:30 a.m. liturgy. Why should I become an acolyte? There may be many reasons why you would decide to become an Acolyte; from as simple as wanting something to do in church to make it more interesting to wanting to serve your church and God. How do I become an acolyte? If you are in 5th through 12th grades, you are eligible to become an Acolyte. Just call or email Dan or Mary Kerns and let us know you are interested. We will arrange an initial training session and ongoing training as needed by any individual. It is really very easy, as everyone will whisper and give you cues on what to do. How often will I serve? Acolytes serve at church during the 10:30 a.m. liturgy and are usually scheduled about once every four or five weeks. NEW!! Years of Service Recognition Beginning this year, Acolytes will be designated and honored for their years of service by ribbons of various colors. Keep an eye on this site for more information! NEW!! Current Acolyte Schedule Please look at the schedule and note your assigned dates. If you cannot be there, please trade your date with someone else. If you know changes in advance, please call Kathy at the Church office (304) 343-3837, with details of any substitutions. Father Bill likes to have four acolytes at each service.
