Roger Day, Parenting Magazine’s “parenting pick”, is a name synonymous with zany, infectious fun for all ages. Roger performs an original, completely interactive, high-energy live family performance that has earned him a large following wherever he performs, inspiring enthusiastic audience participation, even from a few unsuspecting adults!
The Birmingham, Alabama native, 38, writes playful, fact-filled tunes about wild animals and everyday wackiness. Throughout the Southeast, his zippy ditties are sung in car seats and back yards, high chairs and day care centers.
His concerts are about 45 minutes to an hour long and include enough variety to get kids really revved up so “they’re dancing in the aisles,” but later bring them back down so they’ll be calm when they leave. His latest CD, “Ready to Fly” features backup vocals from the Indigo Girls on the title song and Nanci Griffith on “Parachute Girl.”
Saint Matthews Episcopal Church is fortunate to welcome this nationally renowned children’s artist to our church on Sunday, October 8th. Roger will perform 2 to 3 songs at children’s chapel during the 10:30 service and will then conduct a family concert inside the church at 4:30pm. If great Fall weather prevails, we hope to also have children’s activities outside such as face painting and a jupiter jump prior to the start of the concert.
The reduced fee of having Mr. Day come to our church is $1000.00 plus overnight accommodations. We also need some funding for publicity as well as games/activities to occur on the grounds prior to the 4:30 pm concert. We are asking that as many of you as possible please consider making a contribution to support this fantastic effort. Donations may be sent to Saint Matthews Episcopal Church at 36 Norwood Road, Attention: Beth Robey. Please note the contribution is for the Roger Day concert. We plan to make the concert free to the community and will ask for donations to go toward the youth programs of Saint Matthews. (Vacation Bible School, Sunday school, etc…)
I encourage each of you to visit Roger’s web site at www.Rogerday.com and get a taste of his music and flair. As you’ll see, Roger’s calendar includes other church oriented events where he includes religious topics in his music. I am so excited Saint Matthews has the opportunity to offer the children of our church and the whole community this once in a lifetime experience. It is also such a bonus to show off the beautiful grounds and sanctuary of Saint Matthews to our neighbors. I look forward to answering any questions you might have or hearing your thoughts. I may be reached at 343-0528 or 3taylors@charter.net. |
